The County Health Department is strongly recommending that anyone over the age of two (2) wear a mask in public, indoor spaces AND at indoor, private gatherings. This guidance also applies to those who have been vaccinated. Hand sanitizer will be at each table for your convenience. Meals will be plated and served to you.
This Week at Rotary: Teresa Holmes - How Bravery Built Bridges
Please join us Thursday as we welcome Rotary Club of Madison President Teresa Holmes. Teresa's road to the presidency was accelerated in February of this year after their Rotary Board asked her to move forward in succession when the previous Vice-President resigned. She was initially elected to serve as the club’s president in July of 2022. A perfect time for change as the organization has a new leadership structure and has launched efforts to create more continuity within the organization while better positioning their service teams also known as “committees” to execute creative ideas for service throughout the Madison community.
Last Week at Rotary: The La Crosse Curling Club with Mike Nickel
Thanks to Mike Nickel for sharing your passion for the sport of curling and the exciting plans to grow the sport in our community. For more on the La Crosse Curling Club and their plans for the future, click the link below.
Rotary Club of La Crosse will recognize World Polio Day this Thursday, October 21st with a press conference lead by Patt Boge and Bud Hammes. We would love to have a large group of Rotarians at the event so please join us at 11:00am on at Grounded Patio Cafe and wear your Rotary swag.
We are pleased to announce that iFeed will take place on Saturday November 6th!
Unfortunately it will not be the full iFeed that we have known and loved. Public health precautions as well as the political climate in Nicaragua have lead the decision to suspend the meal packing event for this year.
One of the great things about iFeed is that in addition to supporting hunger/food insecurity internationally, it also addresses food insecurity locally. And, there is a great need in our community. On Saturday, November 6th from 9am-12pm, Logan, Aquinas, Central, Holmen, Onalaska, West Salem and Caledonia High Schools will be holding food drives. Interact students will then meet to sort the donated food items.
Our goal is to make this huge and we need your help! Please support us on November 6th by dropping off a donation of food items at one of the high schools listed above. Other ideas on how you can help:
- Offer a food drive at your business
- Promote iFeed through social media and with your family and friends
Brian Langenhorst and Mike Nickel, Co-Chairs of this year's fruit basket fundraiser, are seeking fun and energetic club members to join their team. The first committee meeting is being held this Thursday at 11:00 in The Cargill Room. For more information contact Brian at langenhorst.brian@mayo.edu
Friday November 26th is just around the corner and we need "all hands on deck" to assure another successful kickoff for this season's Rotary Lights. Volunteers for the 7:30-10:30pm are especially needed. Click below to sign up.
With donated materials from Target in Onalaska and their own $325 contribution for materials, Onalaska Interact students made 33 blankets for Afghan children at Ft. McCoy.
Zabuli Education Center in Afghanistan
Update From Razia's Ray of Hope
Schools across Afghanistan are in the process of implementing new requirements for gender-separated learning, including the condition that female students attend classes led by female teachers. We are incredibly lucky in that our school already meets these requirements.
While our K-6th grade students have made their return, our 7th-12th graders are waiting patiently as other schools in the region work to secure qualified female teachers. Given the barriers to girls' education in Afghanistan, qualified female teachers are understandably in short supply. As we await approval for our older students to make their return, we remain both well prepared and incredibly eager
to welcome them back.
For those of you who may sponsor an older student, please know that our team has been delivering your letters to the girls at home. Our students who've had to remain home have been particularly excited to receive your letters in
recent weeks.
We will continue to keep you all updated as the situation evolves.
