Each year, our District 6250 offers an amazing opportunity for Rotary Youth Exchange students to take a bus trip to the East Coast. Not only do students visit iconic American locations such as Philadelphia, Washington, DC, New York, Boston, and Niagara Falls, but also a mini United Nations is formed in the bonding friendships created amongst the students from five or six continents.
We would love for Beca to have this once in a lifetime experience. We are writing to request your support to enable Beca to go on the two week East Coast bus trip. In the past three months, Beca has been working to raise funds by selling candy at many of our weekly meetings. In the next couple of months, she will also be working with fellow exchange students at several Brat Barns outside Festival Foods. She still needs approximately $2,500 to make this trip happen. She should register for this by March 31st, so your prompt response would be appreciated.
We are looking for 25 Rotarians to commit to contributing $100 each to enable Beca to go. Of course, any support you can provide is much appreciated. To support Beca in achieving one more of her dreams, please make your check (indicate "Beca trip" in the memo section) payable to the Rotary Club of La Crosse and send it to:
We are looking for nominations for "Rotarian of the Year" from our club....please submit you nominations to rotarylax@charter.net by May 1st...click here to view form. The board will review the nominations at the May board meeting and make a selection. The Rotarian of the Year will be recognized at our Spring Social and the Avenues of Service Dinner on Tuesday, August 14th.
Steve Doll went on a mission trip to Mexico helping the Onalaska Hilltoppers Rotary Club. See more photos.
"We spent the day distributing water filters donated by the Onalaska Hilltoppers Rotary Club to the families in Mayto, Mexico. Mayto is 2 hours from Puerto Vallarta. The $60 filters will provide clean water for decades, a much needed necessity. We dispensed the 50 filters at a 1st -6th grade one room school and had an opportunity to visit the class. What a fabulous project."
Rotarian Elmer and Lil Grassman are residents of Bethany St. Joseph Care Center....2501 Shelby Road...Room 712. Yes he would love visitors or send your well wishes to the address above. Rotary Friendship Exchange...The Rotary Friendship Exchange program gives Rotarians and their families the opportunity to host and visit Rotarians around the world. In addition to experiencing other cultures and making lasting friendships, an exchange provides a strong foundation for carrying out other international activities and service projects. The primary goal of a Friendship Exchange is to build greater international understanding and goodwill among Rotarians and their families. In addition, exchange participants can learn how their vocations are practiced in other parts of the world, observe new customs and cultures, and promote an appreciation of cultural diversity worldwide.
Our club will be hosting three friendship exchanges in 2018.
We will host Rotary Friendship exchanges:
9 Latvians from May 13-16;
7 Argentinians tentative dates June 14-16
We will also host delegates from the La Crosse - Forde (Norway) sister city project. At this time we do not know how many will be coming and the tentative date is most likely Oktoberfest Friday and leaving one week later.
Our Youth Exchange Student for 2018-19 will be a girl, Lucia from Spain.We have already identified her first host family, who happens to live in the Central school district. The first family will have her from mid-August to early December, Her second family will have her from early December to around March 31st, after which her second family would have her until mid-July 2019.
We are looking for Rotarians who would like to host her as the second or third family. If hosting an exchange student interests you or if you have any questions, please talk to Maria Norberg, Eva Marie Restel or Jack Haase. Also, feel free to talk to Tami Woods on what it has meant to her family to host Beca.
