This Week: Passing the Club Gavel and District Gavel, Paul Harris Awards, and Wine Raffle
This week's program is the Passing of the Gavel/Changing of the Guard where we'll welcome new club leadership. Mark Jolivette is our La Crosse Rotary Club President for this Rotary year (July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025). Special thanks to Eva Marie Restel who will complete her year of service as Club President when she passes the gavel to Mark.
We are also please to be hosting the Passing of the Gavel/Changing of the Guard to the new District 6250 Governor, Todd Restel. We welcome past District Governors to our meeting today. A special thank you to Michelle McGrath who will be completing her year of service as District Governor when she passes the gavel to Todd.
We will be receiving in new members, recognizing Paul Harris fellows, and holding our Wine Raffle as well!
Last Week: Mississippi River Operation Pollination (Environmental Committee)
The Environmental Committee shared a presentation of what projects and other initiatives have happened because of the launch of the Mississippi River Operation Pollination (MR-OP) Partnership Project on September 28, 2023.
That MR-OP event has already launched projects in progress or brought forth ideas for new ones.

Round Table Discussion Follow Up

Starting in July with our new fiscal year we will be rotating through different patriotic songs in the place where we currently sing "America". America will be in the rotation. Viking River Cruises has three new shore excursions in La Crosse for their guests this season. Each needs a local host/ambassador to accompany the guests on the motorcoach. The three excursions are: (1) The Dahl Auto Museum tour and Antique Car Ride; (2) The Guadalupe Shrine tour; and (3) the Taste of La Crosse + Rivoli Theater tour. Between July 9 and Oct. 21, Dahl Auto Museum and the Guadalupe Shrine will each be visited 10 times; the Taste of La Crosse/Rivoli Theater tour will occur 3 times.
What are the specific duties & expectations?
Greet the guests at their coach down on the levee where the ship will be docked.
Wear your Rotary badge to identify yourself; dress in business casual and/or Rotary garb.
Introduce yourself to the coach driver, and deliver clear driving directions to him/her once you leave.
Follow the script that will be provided, but feel free to add any additional information or personal anecdotes you may have about life in La Crosse.
Represent our city and our club in a positive way.
Behave as if you were hosting an informal reception at your home. Make everyone feel welcome.
Welcome to Week FOUR of RI’s Month of Fellowships.
In his thank you message as the outgoing Trustee Chair of The Rotary Foundation,
Rotarian Barry Rassin advises members to keep “dreaming big.” In the current edition of Rotary Magazine (June 2024), Rassin sums up TRF’s list of accomplishments: “For me, this month is the end of seven years in Rotary leadership that began as president-elect of RI. It’s remarkable how far we have come during that time, and how much we’ve done through The Rotary Foundation. We wouldn’t be where we are without your support and without you dreaming big. A few months back, I saw these big dreams when I visited a hospital in India where doctors perform 4,200 pediatric heart surgeries a year thanks to a global grant. I will
never forget the hospital in Taiwan where ambulances funded by another Foundation grant have doubled the survival rate for heart patients. And these examples barely scratch the surface; your Foundation awarded 1,098 global grants during the 2022-23 Rotary year…We have grant recipients working to end malaria in Zambia, reduce the mortality rate of mothers and infants in Nigeria, and eliminate cervical cancer in Egypt….Through your support, our dream of spreading peace is growing, with the Otto and Fran Walter Rotary Peace Center set to welcome its first students at Bahcesehir University in Istanbul next year. And if we hadn’t envisioned a better world and supported PolioPlus, would it have been possible that Nigeria would be declared polio-free, as it was in 2020?...We set an ambitious fundraising goal of $500 million this year. We are well on our way to reaching the goal, and with the
support of everyone reading this we’ll make it….All I can do is say thank you. I can’t wait to see how far those Rotary dreams will take us in the years ahead.”
