The COVID-19 level for La Crosse County is measuring at a LOWlevel at this time.
Per current CDC guidelines, when a county is in low COVID risk level, wearing masks indoors is optional.
According to the CDC's guidelines, individuals in communities at this level should stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and get tested if you have symptoms, but wear a mask indoors in public if you choose. However, additional precautions may be needed for people at high risk for severe illness. People may choose to mask at any time. If you have been exposed to COVID-19 or test positive, we ask that you follow the CDC guidelines for quarantining/isolating.

This Week: Jake Erickson, Boys and Girls Club Initiatives
Leaders from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse will share how the Club is creating a variety of pathways for area youth. CEO, Jake Erickson, and COO, Joan Parke, will discuss how Club members now have unique opportunities to receive mental health services, scholarships for higher education and explore career options to discover their best path towards a great future.
Jake Erickson has spent his life within the Boys & Girls Club movement. As a proud Club alumnus, Jake began his first full time career at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse as the Athletic Director in 2000. He then held several other roles including Club Director and Director of Operations. This wide range of experience, community connections and leadership led to Jake being named CEO in 2017.
Under the leadership of Jake, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse operates 8 Club facilities, serves over 4,000 youth annually and works hard to do whatever it takes to provide great futures. Jake serves on a variety of community committees and task forces in order to help make La Crosse a great place to live, work and play.
Today, Jake and his wife, Jess, have two children that they are extremely proud of. Son, Julian attends the University of Wisconsin – Madison where he is pursuing his degree in business. Daughter, Molly, is currently a junior at Logan High School.
Last Week at Rotary: Drake Hokanson, History of Aviation in La Crosse Through Photography
From grass fields and biplanes, to the early air mail service, to long concrete runways, Drake Hokanson provided a brief look at moments in local aviation history through vintage photographs gleaned from several private and public collections.
Drake Hokanson is an author, photographer, and editor with a specialization in transportation history and culture. He is author/coauthor of three books, has exhibited photographs coast to coast, and is professor emeritus at Winona State University. He and his wife Carol Kratz own and fly a classic Cessna 172.
The meal will be croissant with almond wild rice and cranberry chicken salad, chips, and Honeycrips apples.
Bottle water, coffee and ice tea will be available.
Al's Musky Challenge Check Presentation
Our weekly meeting on October 13th will be at the BGC where a check will be presented to this year's recipient of the Musky Challenge funds: Boys and Girls Club of La Crosse.
Our club was just invited to participate in an Environmental Tour in Mexico from October 20-26 to see environmental projects and the incoming of the monarch migration.

Rotary Youth Exchange Cultural Celebration

Funds raised for this even help our students cover the cost for the East or West Coast trip at the end of their exchange. A great way to meet our exchange students and support our own student, Matihilde.
Ted Redmond from Pale Blue Dot spoke to our club this past winter. They have spent time gathering information and input from the community to get them this far, but they want more people to look through the draft and provide comments.

The Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) is a program designed to exchange members with another district in order to create new friendships and foster international understanding and good will. Participants are ambassadors for their own club and their country. RFE is an intense social and cultural experience. Some exchanges are all for fun and some are project based.
RFE are both happening and being planned at this time. A group from our district is in Poland for both fun and purpose (working with refugees) and the District RFE Committee is in communication with Chilli, Brazil, hoping for a group to visit our area in late May or early June.
District 6250 will travel to District 3170 in India the week(s) of February 4-14, 2023. The group will travel to Mumbai (Bomba), then inland to their district, then will move in their district to visit parts of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. Participants pay for air fare and make their own travel arrangements and are stay in host homes during their visits.
Who can travel on a RFE? Maximum of 12 interested Rotarians, spouses, and/or family members. If you are interested, contact Dave Clements (link below) as soon as possible to get your name on the interest list.
The need to help our local food pantries has never been greater. The mission of Rotary Lights is to "feed the hungry". They are selling these bears to help offset some construction costs of larger food pantry, serving thousands of needy families in our area. Bears can be purchase for cash, VENMO, or club account at weekly meetings. Help support WAFER if you can!
