Thanks to Randy Nelson and the La Crosse School District for hosting our meeting last week. The North Side school is amazing and the members enjoyed taking tours. We would also like to thank the Radisson staff for catering and helping clean up.
We also had Club Assembly...where we discussed Invocation, Fruit Baskets and Committees. We had some good suggestions and comments on all three. If you did not have a chance to comment or were not at the meeting and would like to voice your opinion, you can still do so....email Lyn at rotarylax@charter.net. She will compile the comments and the board will discuss at an upcoming meeting. We will report back to our membership if any changes will be made. This is your club and we VALUE your comments.

Kids Coulee Work Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 18th from 9:00 to Noon. Family and friends are welcome to come and help. Bring gloves, rakes, brooms...we'll be sweeping, raking up leaves, spreading wood chips and we may have a painting crew. Kids Coulee is located in Myrick Park ....2000 La Crosse Street. Great make-up opportunity.
Our Rotary Youth Exchange Student for 2015-16 will be Anniina, a 16 year-old girl from Finland. We are excited to sponsor Anniina while she is here. We are still looking for host families. You would be responsible for hosting Anniina for approximately 3-months. Hosting a Youth Exchange student from another country is a challenge...and an opportunity. Involvement with an exchange student challenges a host family to become familiar with another culture, while providing the opportunity to share a student's hopes and ambitions. These challenges and opportunities promise to enrich the lives of every member of your family.
Host family responsibilities: As a Rotary Youth Exchange host family, it is your responsibility to provide room and board for your exchange student. You are also expected to exercise general parental supervision over the student just as you would your own children and involve them in daily household chores and activities. However, most host families involvement with their student does not stop at room and board. The families often share their native background while also learning about their visitors' culture. This does not mean that you have to arrange elaborate entertainment, but simply make the student a part of your family life that most teenage students experience in your culture.
New Sponsorship....Conductor Wannabe.....Rotary Connection...The La Crosse Symphony Orchestra introduced seven community volunteers competing for the opportunity to conduct the orchestra this spring. Conductor Wannabe format has changed this year! In the spirit of collaboration, they have asked each of the seven candidates to choose a non-profit organization that will receive ½ of the money they each raise during the campaign. This year, each “vote” is $2.00 – one dollar going to the LSO and the other dollar going to the candidates chosen charity. The winner and runner-up with the most votes received by April 28, 2015 will make their conducting debuts with the LSO on May 2, 2015. “The Conductor Wannabe competition is one of the symphony’s most anticipated annual fundraisers,” says Alexander Platt, Music Director. “The candidates spend a generous amount of time and effort into garnering community support and raising awareness of the great things we are doing at the LSO.” Click here to see the 2015 Conductor Wannabes or click on Josh Gates, Mike Desmond or Joe Kruse to donate.
