PRESIDENT TAMI'S QUOTE OF THE WEEK

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - December 12th
This week at Rotary ….Rotarian Beth Franklin will give her classification talk.   Beth is the Community Concierge at La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce.  Members always enjoy hearing about their fellow Rotarians.

Through the Chamber's First Friend program, Beth works to strengthen the business community by helping area companies and organizations attract and retain the best talent. She works with individuals and families relocating to Greater La Crosse, matching their wants and needs with our community's assets, allowing them to feel like they can always call our community their home. She provides a personalized experience for each individual/family, helping them integrate into the community. She also provides accompanying partner career services.

Classification Talk: Some have described the classification talk as a talking business card.  But it is so much more than that!  You can share vital and interesting information about your family, your interest and your business. The talk is not meant to embarrass you, but to let us get to know you as you want us to.  You are not expected to present yourself as a professional speaker.  Most of us are not.  Contact Sarah Arendt-Beyer Program Chair for the year if you would like to give your classification talk.

ROTARY LIGHTS UPDATES

Thanks to all who helped with opening night at Rotary Lights and those that continue to help throughout the year to make this a must destination for many families during the holiday season.

Pat Stephens shared just one of the emails he has received this year from a community member  - "I just want to tell YOU and I ask that you let your volunteers know that our family tradition of touring Rotary Lights multiple times has continued and once again, you have outdone yourselves. What a HUGE blessing it is to our family. Thank you SO much!!"

Our club sponsors the Rotary Lights by donating $2,500 - we received a Rotary Lights framed artwork and two sweatshirts (we used items for a raffle for our exchange student, Inga's trip out west - we will be giving Inga $670 towards her trip!)   Metre created the following ad for the Rotary Lights booklet.

This year because of the 25th Rotary Lights Banquet our club donated an additional $1,000 to help defray expenses of the banquet.  We will be inviting non-profit representatives to receive their checks at the banquet this year instead of at our area Rotary Clubs.  We are all invited to attend...tickets will be $30 or you can sponsor a table for $400 (10 tickets included and sponsorship noted).  Information in next article below.

Special thanks to the Board of Directors of Rotary Lights and to the Steering Committee that work tirelessly throughout the year to make Rotary Lights what it is today...an  AMAZAING gift to the Coulee Region with our Rotary name on it!     Please look at the list and make a special effort to thank those you know in person!

Nearly 160,000 visitors per year enjoy this holiday tradition.

Reminder our fellowship on Tuesday, December 17th will be at Three Rivers Lodge/Radisson and a walk through Rotary Lights if you wish.

International Civil Aviation Day (December 7th)

The speaker was Kelly Colgan of Colgan Air Services. Dec 7th is International Civil Aviation Day, the purpose of which is to help generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of States.

Kelly is the President of Colgan Air, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the FBO (Fixed Base Operator). Kelly began her career in Milwaukee working for a nonprofit and obtained her Masters of Science in Nonprofit Management. Kelly later decided to join her family business and continue the success her parents Tim and Debbie had established.

Colgan is an independently owned FBO that serves the airport and the aviation community through providing fueling service, jet mechanics, flight lessons, private and chartered flights, and corporate travel arrangements. November is Foundation Month.  This is the time to renew your pledges to the Rotary Foundations for 2020 & 2021.  You recently received a letter and personal pledge form either at a Rotary Meeting or by mail.  We are asking you return your pledge form by December 31st.  If you do not return the form we will assume that you will be pledging the same as 2019.  YOUR PLEDGE IS AN INVESTMENT IN THE WORLD.

Those that pledge $100 or more to the Rotary International Polio Fund during this enrollment period will be given matching points, thanks to a number of generous Rotarians in our club.  This means if you pledge $100 to PP you will be given 100 points, $200 you will be given 200 points.

If you have any questions, contact rotarylax@charter.net.

This year you are given the opportunity to make your Rotary Foundation INTERNATIONAL pledge through Rotary Direct.    You can enroll online at www.rotary.org/give.   If you give to both the Annual Fund-Share (funds come back to our District for grants) and Polio Plus you may need to fill out the form twice.  If you decide to give online - please NOTE that on your pledge form so that I don't bill you on your invoice in January.

They would pay for dues and $100 for meals per quarter no matter how many meetings they attend that quarter.

Corporate Membership is a program to allow multiple employees of a business Rotary participation under one primary membership. Each corporate membership is limited to a three-year term. After the three-year corporate membership term, the individuals are required to become individual members. View Corporate Membership Policy.

Family Membership is a program to allow a second individual Rotary participation under one primary membership.  View Family Membership Policy.

Honorary Membership  is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals.Unlike other membership categories that can be requested by the member, Honorary Membership is bestowed upon a member by election from the Board of Directors.   View Honorary Membership Policy.

Excused Membership is offered to members if the aggregate of the member’s years of age and years of membership in one or more clubs is 85 years or more, the member has been a member of one or more clubs for at least 20 years, and the member has notified the club's secretary in writing of the member’s desire to be excused from attendance  and the board has approved.  Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues and only for meals when they attend a meeting.

Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member.  This was a criteria that our club had set not RI.  This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently.  You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.
