This Week: Richard Strauss: Lao Friends Hospital for Children
Richard will talk about the history, mission, and vision of the hospital, the types of care provided, the patients and families cared for in LFHC, the hospital providers, and the goal of having 100% Lao doctors, nurses, administrators, and other medical staff in the next few years.
Richard is a father of three, father-in-law of three, grandfather of nine, brother of two, husband of one; retired pediatrician (pediatric and neonatal intensive care, procedural sedation, and general pediatrics); very part-time medical interpreter (Spanish); 23 year Rotarian; born in Chicago, raised in Syracuse, NY, and continuing to mature over the last 38 years in La Crosse.
Extra Efforts Awards
Continuing an effort begun by the La Crosse Tribune, our club will honor recipients from local high schools with the "Extra Effort Award".
Students will receive a financial scholarship donated through the generosity of many Rotary Club of La Crosse members.
Recipients will be joined by those who have supported them in their educational journey thus far such as their parents, administators, staff and fellow students.

On Saturday morning, May 9, we’ll be holding a Visioning event in order to develop a new strategic plan to replace the current 2021-2026 strategic plan. Please reach out Niki Pohnl or Richard Strauss if you would be intereated in being part of this process. We are look at an approximate 8am-12:30pm with lunch included at English Lutheran Church.

Several RI districts are celebrating members who have dedicated their service to the betterment of fellow human beings. One such Rotarian is Dawn Rochelle. A past district governor D7730, North Carolina and licensed clinical social worker, who is also the CEO of One Place, Rotarian Rochelle was awarded the Citation for Meritorious Service by the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation. The award is one of Rotary’s highest honors for exceptional service and commitment to advancing its mission. Presented by District Governor Andi Young at the annual district conference, the award is presented to one Rotarian per district who exemplifies leadership, generosity and a sustained commitment to creating lasting change. “The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service honors those who truly embody the spirit of service,” Young said. Dawn’s leadership, generosity and belief in Rotary’s ability to transform lives have made an extraordinary impact. A member of the Rotary Club of Safe Childhoods, Rochelle served as district governor from 2020 to 2021 and is an advocate for The Rotary Foundation and PolioPlus. She is also the co-founder of the Rotary Action Group for Girls’ Empowerment and serves as a Cadre technical adviser, in which she supports global efforts in health, peace and conflict resolution.
