Last Week: Jed Olson, ORA Trails
The Outdoor Recreation Alliance (ORA Trails) is a 501c3 nonprofit. They are dedicated to building happy, healthy, and resilient communities by providing access to equitable and sustainable outdoor recreation experiences.
Jed would play in the dirt all day if we let him. He has been back and forth across the globe following one adventure after another by bike, board, or boots. When it came time to raise a family, he and his wife, Kelly, paused just long enough to plant a few roots in the Driftless Area, and then started the adventures all over again, this time with kids.
La Crosse and the surrounding area offer all of the recreation possibilities they could have ever asked for accompanied by a warm welcoming sense of community. Jed loves that he can pick his kids up from school, hit the woods, slopes, or water, and still have dinner on the table before his wife gets home from work. By serving as the ORA Trails Executive Director, he has an opportunity to improve and highlight this beautiful place he calls home.

District Gran Management Seminar, Tuesday, January 30th, 6:30-8:00pm via Zoom
A Rotary Grant Management Seminar is a training event organized by Rotary International for Rotarians involved in managing grants within the Rotary Foundation's grant programs. These seminars aim to educate and guide Rotary club and district leaders on the process of planning, applying for, implementing, and managing Rotary grants effectively.
During these seminars, participants typically learn about the different types of grants available through Rotary, the criteria for eligibility, the application process, financial management, reporting requirements, and best practices for successful grant implementation. The goal is to equip Rotarians with the knowledge and skills necessary to execute impactful projects and utilize Rotary Foundation funds efficiently for humanitarian and community service initiatives worldwide.
All clubs in District 6250 are encouraged to send at least one representative. Attendance is mandatory for any club that wishes to lead or sponsor District and/or Global Grants during Rotary year 2024-25.
This year's GMS will be conducted via Zoom on January 30, 2024, from 6:30-8:00 pm. Sign up on the district website in order to receive the Zoom link and class materials.

In January 18, 2024, the WHO office in Abuja, Nigeria released the following statement regarding Polio:
Committed to ensuring that every child is safe from the paralysis caused by poliovirus, Rotary International has donated a $14 million grant to the government of Nigeria to support polio surveillance activities and halt the spread of all forms of poliovirus across the country. The grant which will be executed through the World Health Organization (WHO) will help to keep the country’s foot on the pedal through polio surveillance activities to sustain the gains achieved on wild poliovirus eradication and work towards eradicating the Circulating Variant Poliovirus (cVPV2) from Nigeria.
Welcoming the new grant, WHO Country Representative, Dr Walter Kazadi Mulombo,
affirmed that “Surveillance is key to achieving health security”. Expressing gratitude to Rotary International for the grant, he said the eradication of all forms of poliovirus in Nigeria is key when discussing health security in the country. The grant will boost work on
polio surveillance until Nigeria is through with the goal of eradicating all forms of
poliovirus. Work is going on to get rid of CVPVD2, and surveillance is a key component of the intervention”.
In his remark, Joshua Hassan, Chairman, Nigeria Rotary Polio Plus Committee said the organization is ready to support Nigeria to eradicate all forms of poliovirus in the country. Mr. Hassan said Rotary Foundation Trustees, approved in July 2023 a grant of US $2,675,000 to support Polio eradication in Nigeria through WHO Nigeria for Surveillance to track CVPV2. “An additional grant of US $4,514,785 dated October 2023, was again approved by Rotary Foundation Trustees for surveillance by WHO and finally on the 10 of January 2024 yet another grant was approved to the sum of US $6,848,002 for technical assistant making a total of US $14,037,787”
