We will welcome Rotarians Jodi Widuch and Mary Beth Hensel as our presenters. You will learn about our "Wheels of Hope" project. This is an international project that our club in cooperation with other Rotary Clubs has set a goal to raise money to fund a bus and a van to safely transport girls to their schools in Afghanistan.
Only 12% of women in Afghanistan are considered literate. The Zabuli Education Center is one of the few successful schools for girls that is working to change that sad statistic. The Wheels of Hope Project is an important support to expanding educational opportunities for girls and creating safety. This work is inspired by Razia Jan, last year’s District Conference keynote speaker and founder of the school.
Thank you to Edwin for presenting at our Zoom Meeting last week. The meeting was taped and will be released in May.....Edwin requested we waited until his newsletter is released in May. Our club was the first to see a video he will be presenting to the District in May in his newsletter.
We also were happy to have two of our youth exchange students join us. Inga and her mother, Izabela were guests. Inga arrived home safely last week. They both thanked the club for our hospitality to Inga and assured us once it is safe to travel again, they will come and visit
We also had a surprise visit from our 2016-17 exchange student, Simran. It was great seeing Simran and hearing how she is doing. We hope someday that Simran will also make a trip back to the states to see us.
Inga and Simran will always be special to our club. Once we release the meeting video you will see how special both of them are.
Rotary Youth Exchange builds peace one young person at a time. Students learn a new language, discover another culture, and truly become global citizens. Exchanges for students ages 15-19 are sponsored by Rotary clubs in more than 100 countries. Our District 6250 and our Youth Exchange Committee needs to be commended for the work they do that allows our club to have a student each year.
In our club, the student is hosted by three families throughout the year. ALL Rotarians are invited to be a part of the student's life during their stay. Thanks to ALL who are a part of our club's youth exchange program! Lives are forever changed. District LINK Youth Exchange Info RI LINK Youth Exchange Info

Non-perishable foods are running dangerously low at The Hunger Task Force, and with the postponement of the National Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive, they are in desperate need of canned goods for the programs they serve. Canned items needed include meats (tuna, chicken), peanut butter, soup, fruit, boxed side dishes (stuffing, rices, potatoes), breakfast items (cereal, oatmeal, etc), canned ravioli & spaghettios, pasta & pasta sauce. We believe that everyone deserves to have access to food and essentials, especially in times of uncertainty.
As scientists work to find a vaccine for the new coronavirus, we can do our part to keep our communities healthy by helping Rotary spread the word about the importance of vaccinations during World Immunization Week, 24-30 April. Immunizations save millions of lives every year and are widely recognized as one of our most successful and cost-effective health interventions. Yet outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases continue to put children’s health at risk around the world. Rotary knows firsthand that #VaccinesWork. Since 1985, we’ve contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children from polio. When children receive the polio vaccine, their pinkie fingers are marked with purple ink so health workers will know which children received the vaccine. Today, only two countries continue to report cases of polio caused by the wild poliovirus: Afghanistan and Pakistan.
As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads uncertainty and hardship around the world and in our community, we as Rotarians have many opportunities to help others.
Rotarians are people of action. This is your opportunity to look over the following links to see how you best can help. Every small gesture will be appreciated, whether it is a monetary donation, a letter to a resident in a healthcare facility, a thank you to our essentials in the area, etc.
We have one Rotarian that we know of in a healthcare facility. Rotarian Elmer and his wife Lil are at Bethany St. Joseph, 2501 Shelby Road, La Crosse, WI 54601. Check your ClubRunner Membership App…. see if there is someone you might want to connect with and drop a note to.
