SPACE is a passionate La Crosse collective comprised of parents and residents dedicated to ensuring the safety and sustainability of our community spaces, particularly playgrounds.
Jamie will share an inspiring journey that started with a student's research project and evolved into a thriving community movement.
Her talk will delve into the significant findings from the research and the actionable steps taken.
As a result of these discoveries, ongoing efforts are now underway to replace synthetic materials, like recycled rubber, with alternatives that are more environmentally friendly such as wood chips, sand, and grass.

Scuba Fellowship Meeting Thursday, August 3
The club's Scuba Fellowship will meet this Thursday at 1:05, right after the end of our regular noon meeting. Whether you are a certified diver or just have an interest in exploring scuba diving, you are cordially invited to attend. There will be a brief discussion of some favorite dives. The meeting should take just 30-45 minutes so you can be to your next event by 2:00. If you are interested but cannot attend, please let Jack Haase know and he will see that your name is added to the fellowship's list.

Clara Gelatt - Co-Owner of Rivoli Theater and Building. Clara grew up in La Crosse with a strong interest in giving back and serving the her community. She serves on the La Crosse Community Foundation Board, YMCA Board, and the La Crosse Community Theater Board.
Allyson Krause - Managing Director of Retirement Plan Services Division at Trust Point, Inc. Allyson is passionate about de-stigmatizing mental health conditions for individuals, knowing how societal pressure can impact a person or family.
Avenues of Service Baskets
THANK YOU to all who contributed to our Avenues of Service baskets. We ended up with four AMAZING baskets: Old Fashioned Summer, Tool Time, Bottoms Up, and Grounds for Celebration! Can't wait to see how much money will be raised for Rotary Works Foundation from the baskets!

Catholic Charities Back to School
Distribution Event
The La Crosse Community is very excited to once again join forces to help families get their students ready to head Back2School! Rotary Club of La Crosse is putting a team together to help. We need volunteers to walk with families and their supply list through an assembly line to gather supplies. There are three shifts available. The Distribution Event is held at the La Crosse Center. Besides school supplies, Catholic Charities has partnered with area organizations to also have resources available for other needs families might have. Thank you for considering! Rotary Works Foundation Bylaw Update
Over the last year, a subcommittee of RWF board members has met, reviewed, and modified our bylaws to more accurately reflect the goals, direction and current operations of the Rotary Works Foundation Board.
At our June 22 meeting, these bylaw changes were proposed for adoption by the Board of Directors, and accepted by the board. As the current bylaws state that changes must be made by vote of the general membership, upon acceptance by the board, these changes are being sent out to you for distribution. They will be presented at the Avenues of Service meeting for approval on August 16th. Please communicate these changes to all your club members.

FOUNDATION MINUTE: JULY 31, 2023
Welcome Back to D6000 Flight-to-End Polio Pilots!
Rotarians Peter Teahen and John Ockenfels flew out of the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids on May 5 in a Cessna T210M airplane intent on raising awareness for polio eradication all over the world. They achieved this goal in their 90-day and over 25,000- mile flight. Along the way, they met both fellow Rotarians and complete strangers in several countries, who were impressed by the humanitarian passion of these devoted pilots. Teahen and Ockenfels educated their listeners about the highly infectious disease, which is spread from person to person, through contaminated water and notoriously victimizing children under five. Their audiences also learned how the virus attacks the victim’s nervous system, often leading to permanent paralysis. The flight around the world has garnered much funds for TRF because 100% of every donation to Teahen and Ockenfels’ Flight to End Polio campaign goes to TRF’s Polio Plus Program. By the end of July when the duo returned home, more than $1,000,000 has been raised for The Rotary Foundation. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match every donation 2:1. These two Rotarians sure make other members think of how to contribute to TRF.
