Our first woman president was Sharon Imes who joined on January 14, 1988 and served as president from 1992-93.

Left to Right: Lyn Kenney, Anita Frogel and Patt Boge
Lyn has been active in Rotary since 1988 when she was one of the first 6 women in the Madison, Wisconsin Downtown Club of 500 members. After moving from Madison, she has joined four different Rotary Clubs in the past 25 years including Concord, California, Stuart, FL, Aiken, SC and now Madison South in Wisconsin, a smaller club of 75 members. She has served in multiple club and district roles, including Assistant Governor in SC. She is currently District 6250 Chair of Global Grant and Peace Fellow Scholars. She is a major donor and a Bequest Society Member. Her Rotary passions include international projects, Rotary history and mentoring Global Grant and Peace Fellow Scholars. Lyn recently completed an extensive historical documentation project to video record her interviews of the first woman Rotary Club President and the first 8 women DGs in Rotary. She wrote about this project in Sylvia Whitlock’s new book: “Women Also Serve” and it can be viewed online at Rotary Global History Fellowship.
Note from incoming President Jodi Widuch....Yesterday’s program at Rotary was excellent. Lyn Kenney opened our eyes about the long journey of women being allowed membership in Rotary. In her presentation she mentioned a woman named Sylvia Whitlock, from the Duarte Club in California that invited women into its club before officially allowed. I had the great pleasure of hearing Sylvia Whitlock speak at the President Elect Training in Illinois in 2017. Below is a link to that presentation.
It is only 20 minutes long and well worth the time to hear her tell her story of breaking the Rotary gender barrier in the United States.

I believe David Amborn should be the 2016-17 Rotarian of the Year for our club because David Amborn lives the four way test in all that he does. He has overseen the downtown Fruit Basket fundraiser for years, offered his help with convention and every other Rotary need that is asked of him. He has the highest ethical standards and retired from Gundersen Lutheran Foundation after years of fundraising and community giving. He continues to serve the Community Theater, The Children's Museum and the Parenting Place in leadership positions, helping our community to be the best it can be. He has taken an active interest in exchange students in the past, making sure they get to community events and feel welcomed.
I can think of no one who is more deserving, who continues to be active in Rotary year after year, tirelessly and willingly accepting roles wherever needed.
David is currently serving on our Board of Directors and is our Sergeant-at-Arms. He is a past La Crosse Rotary Foundation President and Club President (2009-10).
David will be recognized at our July 6th meeting and the Avenues of Service Dinner on August 15th.
Al Louis has been a member of our club since June 2, 2016. He and his wife Brenda own Designing Jewelers. Al has been a very active member of our club. He said "my first year Rotary experience has been wonderful, awesome and exciting. Best organization I have ever had the privilege of being a part of. I am so amazed what this group gets accomplished."
Thanks to David Amborn for proposing Al! If you know of someone who might be a great Rotarian, invite them to one of our meetings. That is what David did and Al said yes!
The Brain Game Board of Directors has exciting news! They are launching an eBook version of The Brain Game at our Rotary International Booth in Atlanta! They are also very close to having Amazon publish, store and distribute the hard hardcover English version and BuildFire to host the mobile app. Kuddos to all involved in creating these exciting changes to The Brain Game.
The Brain Game is a book enhancing children's brain development, written and recommended by early childhood professionals. This resource was developed through the leadership of the Rotary Club of La Crosse and as part of this Rotary project given to parents of newborns at both local hospitals. The books are also available in Spanish.
Reminder if you are traveling and visiting other Rotary Clubs....please make sure and pick up a banner and Brain Game Book to present. Great way to promote the Brain Game Project.
If you have any questions on the Brain Game Project, you can contact Jeanne Meyer, Administrator at 608-304-2971 or visit their web site.
