This week at Rotary we will welcome two of our outbound Youth Exchange students...Ashlyn Neader and Joel Restel.
Ashlyn Neader was a Rotary Youth Exchange student from the USA to Austria from 2016-17 and recently returned from a second Rotary Exchange to India from 2018-19. Read her blog, here.
Joel Restel spent a year in France through the Rotary Youth exchange program.
We will welcome our new Youth Exchange Student, Inga from Germany. She will arrive in La Crosse on, August 15th at 5:50p.m. She arrives on SkyWest Airlines. Come and welcome Inga to La Crosse!
Every year the nine area Rotary Clubs gather for a celebration of club projects and honor members that have lived the Service Above Self motto. Clubs will also honor their Rotarians of the Year. This year our Avenues of Service Banquet will be Tuesday, August 13th at the new La Crescent Area Event Center, 595 Veterans Parkway, La Crescent, MN.
The celebration will begin at 5:30 with a social. This is a fundraiser for our Rotary Works Foundation. We hope you will save the date. It is a great night of fellowship and celebration. Downtown Rotarians $20 and guests $35 (NO Rotary meeting on August 15th).
Lee Rasch was chosen as the Rotarian of the Year.One nominator stated "Lee should be the Rotarian of the Year because he embodies the object of Rotary. He is a community servant with dedication to ethical behavior and decision making. Lee is a citizen diplomat, advancing international peace efforts. Lee has a track record of great service to our club. Specifically, in 2018-19, one of Lee's primary Rotary accomplishments has been achieved as the chairperson of the centennial celebration fundraising committee. Over $140,000 has been pledged to support the centennial celebration project. Without Lee's efforts and leadership this would simply not have happened."
Lee will be recognized at the Changing of the Guard on July 11th and the Avenues of Service Dinner on August 13th.
Last week Rotarian Jim Salmo, VP for Advancement, Viterbo University gave his classification talk. We all enjoyed getting to know Jim and his life story. His lighthearted talk was enjoyed by all! One story he told was that he arrived in La Crosse on January 1st and Rotarian Mary Ann Gschwind had him at our Rotary meeting on January 3rd! Thank you Mary Ann!
James (Jim) Salmo serves as the vice president for advancement at Viterbo University. Salmo was chosen to lead fundraising and benefactor relation efforts at Viterbo, succeeding Wendell Snodgrass who resigned last August.
Jim joined our club on January 30, 2019 but is not new to Rotary...he has been a Rotarian for 4+ years. Jim is an active member of our STAR group and in our Youth Exchange Committee as a Youth Exchange Counselor.
Classification Talk: Some have described the classification talk as a talking business card. But it is so much more than that! You can share vital and interesting information about your family, your interest and your business. The talk is not meant to embarrass you, but to let us get to know you as you want us to. You are not expected to present yourself as a professional speaker. Most of us are not. Contact Sarah Arendt-Beyer Program Chair for the year if you would like to give your classification talk.
We are teaming up with the Riverfest Commodores with a fundraiser. They are selling raffle tickets to benefit their Riverfest Commodore Foundation, Inc....each ticket is $10 or 3 for $25. and you get a free car wash with each ticket....every ticket we sell we will get $5. First place will be four club seats to a Packer Game - plus 2nd- 4th place prizes will be awarded. Last year we made $2,100 from this fundraiser and our club had 3 of the 5 winners! Drawing will be Tuesday night, September 5th at 7 pm at Shenanigan's.
Thank you to Grant Withrow who will chair this fundraiser. Tickets will be for sale at our upcoming meetings. Sell to your family, friends and coworkers.
We are taking orders for Rotary Club of La Crosse Sweatshirts and Fleece jackets. The items are: Full-Zip Fleece; Full-Zip Hooded Sweatshirt; Pullover Hooded Sweatshirt and Crewneck Sweatshirt. Note there are two types of fleece jackets - one is more fitted. These will have a special 100th logo design.

Rotary Attendance policy is to attend or makeup at least 50% of the club meetings They can be done by: • Attending regular club meetings • Making up meetings at other Rotary Clubs ( which includes E-Clubs) • Engaging in club projects/events/fellowship/board meetings. Make ups can be made up anytime during the year.

Associate Membershipis a program to recruit younger members, millennials, to membership. Associate Membership is available to anyone who is proposed for membership who is 35 years of age or less. Associate membership will end when that member reaches the age of 38. They would pay for dues and $100 for meals per quarter no matter how many meetings they attend that quarter.
Corporate Membership is a program to allow multiple employees of a business Rotary participation under one primary membership. Each corporate membership is limited to a three-year term. After the three-year corporate membership term, the individuals are required to become individual members. View Corporate Membership Policy.
Family Membershipis a program to allow a second individual Rotary participation under one primary membership. View Family Membership Policy.
Honorary Membership is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals.Unlike other membership categories that can be requested by the member, Honorary Membership is bestowed upon a member by election from the Board of Directors. Excused Membership is offered to members if the aggregate of the member’s years of age and years of membership in one or more clubs is 85 years or more, the member has been a member of one or more clubs for at least 20 years, and the member has notified the club's secretary in writing of the member’s desire to be excused from attendance and the board has approved. Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues and only for meals when they attend a meeting.
Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member. This was a criteria that our club had set not RI. This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently. You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.
