LAST WEEK AT ROTARY - November 21st

The Elmaro Vineyard winery, found northwest of Trempealeau, continues to experience explosive growth, having won several wine competition medeals, indluing the Wisconsin Winery of the Year award. The winery opened in 2011 and makes about 25 kinds of wine. They are sold by the glass and the bottle in the winery tasting room. Bottles also are available at grocery and liquor stores, and some area restaurants serve Elmaro wines.

FRUIT BASKET FUNDRAISER....Our Fruit Basket Fundraiser is to generate financial resources for our club activities and service projects.  The fundraiser also provides an opportunity for all club members to participate in an annual activity through the assembly, distribution, purchase and sale of fruit baskets during the holiday season.  This year our Fruit Basket assembly and delivery will be Saturday, December 14th and Monday, December 16thSave those dates!   Deadline to order is December 2nd.

You have two options:

Rotarians will need to purchase or sell 5 fruit baskets @ $23 per basket  = $115    OR     you can make a donation of $100 to the Rotary Club of La Crosse.  It will NOT be a tax deduction because we are NOT a 501 (3) c.  It will be your donation to our annual major fundraiser.

We want you to start thinking of how you can promote our fundraiser.....Does your business give employee gifts?  Rotary Fruit Baskets are your answer!  Each wicker basket contains 8 apples, 4 oranges, 4 pears  and a bag of peanuts.

We have special rates for large orders: 200+ ($18), 100-199 ($19), 49-99 ($20), 1-48 ($23).

PLEDGE DRIVE UPDATE
Image result for Rotary Foundation Month Banner

November is Foundation Month.  This is the time to renew your pledges to the Rotary Foundations for 2020 & 2021.  You recently received a letter and personal pledge form either at a Rotary Meeting or by mail.  We are asking you return your pledge form by November 30th.  If you do not return the form we will assume that you will be pledging the same as 2019.  YOUR PLEDGE IS AN INVESTMENT IN THE WORLD.

Those that pledge $100 or more to the Rotary International Polio Fund during this enrollment period will be given matching points, thanks to a number of generous Rotarians in our club.  This means if you pledge $100 to PP you will be given 100 points, $200 you will be given 200 points.

If you have any questions, contact rotarylax@charter.net.

This year you are given the opportunity to make your Rotary Foundation INTERNATIONAL pledge through Rotary Direct.    You can enroll online at www.rotary.org/give.   If you give to both the Annual Fund-Share (funds come back to our District for grants) and Polio Plus you may need to fill out the form twice.  If you decide to give online - please NOTE that on your pledge form so that I don't bill you on your invoice in January.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - ROTARY HABITAT BUILD DAY

Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area

Our Rotary Habitat Build Day has been changed....  We are looking for 8-10 volunteers for Saturday, December 7, 2019.

LINK TO VOLUNTEER

Start time will be 8:00 am with a short orientation and safety run through.  Lunch will be at 11:30 am and then the end time is 3:30 pm.

All volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather and wear closed toed shoes on the construction site. They won't have individual plastic bottles available, but they do have jugs of water ready.  So everyone will want to bring a water bottle for the day. At the moment they’re not quite sure what we'll be working on yet, however we’ll find out the week before and let everyone know.

YOUTH EXCHANGE HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR ONE NIGHT

YOUTH EXCHANGE HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR ONE NIGHT... Our Rotary Distsrict will be sponsoring a Youth Exchange Weekend on December 6-8.  Beginning Friday, December 6, Inbound Youth Exchange Students from around the state will be arriving for a fun-filled weekend.

We are in need for places for these students to stay on Friday night, December 6th.  Your accommodations do not need to be 5-star.

If you can host, you would pick them up Friday at 6:00p.m. at the food court in the mall-- would provide Friday night dinner and Saturday breakfast; -- would decide how to spend time with them Friday night and Saturday morning.  This could be just chatting with them or doing something special.  You  would drop them off at noon at South Lanes Pizza, 4107 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse.    For the rest of Saturday, they will spend it bowling, helping with the Ugly Sweater 5k event, working at Rotary Lights and sleeping overnight at the Boys and Girls Club.  Their rides home will be picking them up Sunday morning.

We will also need luggage transport from South Lanes to Boys and Girls Club between noon and 3 on Saturday; vehicles to transport students from Rotary Lights to Boys and Girls Club Saturday night (time TBD).

If you can assist with this by hosting one or more students, please contact Lisa Kobs at lisakobs@me.com    Send your name, cell phone number, home address, number and gender of students to host.

If you have any questions, please contact Jack Haase at jack.c.haase@gmail.com

Family Membership is a program to allow a second individual Rotary participation under one primary membership.  View Family Membership Policy.

Honorary Membership  is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals.Unlike other membership categories that can be requested by the member, Honorary Membership is bestowed upon a member by election from the Board of Directors.   View Honorary Membership Policy.

Excused Membership is offered to members if the aggregate of the member’s years of age and years of membership in one or more clubs is 85 years or more, the member has been a member of one or more clubs for at least 20 years, and the member has notified the club's secretary in writing of the member’s desire to be excused from attendance  and the board has approved.  Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues and only for meals when they attend a meeting.

Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member.  This was a criteria that our club had set not RI.  This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently.  You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.
