Alliance to HEAL (Halting the Effects of Addiction Locally)
The Alliance to HEAL (Halting the Effects of Addiction Locally) launched in August of 2018 to work towards healing the broken continuum of care for local people with substance abuse disorders. Alliance to HEAL brought together over 80 community members including judges, mayors, hospital CEOs, legislators, and boots on the ground people working directly with those struggling with addiction. Together, they're sharing their experiences and are problem solving to improve our community response to the opioid crisis. Read more.
Congratulations goes out to Inga, our exchange student....a Committee of the Faculty of Logan High School has selected her as a honorary member for induction into the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools! The National Honor Society is sponsored by the National Associate of Secondary School Principals in order to give recognition to outstanding high school students. Selection to the National Honor Society is one of the highest academic honors that a high school can bestow on any student, and means that the faculty feels she has placed importance on a well-rounded education, developing character and scholarship, and providing leadership and service.
Last week we welcomed teachers and students from two unique charter schools within the School District of La Crosse. La Crosse Design Institute (or LDI) is a middle school project based charter school within the district and 7Rivers Community High School is a project based high school within the district. LDI and 7Rivers schools have grounded their foundations in a partnership with Viterbo University’s Servant Leadership curriculum. The School District of La Crosse has made the commitment to providing varied learning experiences to students and they recently showed this commitment through the purchase of the Brick House (formerly the Eagles Club) to house LDI and 7Rivers. The District plans to move both schools in January. LDI and 7Rivers are excited to partner with downtown businesses and continue to expand the experiential learning opportunities for their students.
Maggie McHugh is currently the Wisconsin Middle School Teacher of the Year, teaches at LDI and is certified in math and English. Ashley Mikehowski is the science teacher at 7Rivers and is also student council advisor. Both Maggie and Ashley are fully committed and invested in project based learning and creating unique opportunities for their students within the La Crosse community.
Thank you to students: Asher Mask, Sam Heise, Addie Wieman, Ace Glise and Paige Yang for sharing their learning experiences at the LDI and 7Rivers schools with our membership. Rotarians left the meeting knowing these students will be success 21st century leaders and responsible and upstanding citizens.

Every Rotarian is Responsible for Membership Growth
If no written objection to the proposal stating reasons is received by the Board of Directors from any member of the club within seven days following publication of the name of the prospective member, the prospective member shall be considered to be elected to membership.
The Coulee Region's Youth Exchange Cultural Celebration will be Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 5:30pm at the La Crosse Club, 200 Harborview Plaza. This is a fundraiser event for our Rotary Youth Exchange students to help cover their cost of the East or West Coast trip at the end of their exchange. Your ticket price will include...hors d'oeuvres, dishes to sample from the students home country and you will here from each of the Rotary Exchange Students and get to know them better. We need your help this year. The way the calendar falls in 2019, we only have 33 nights of operation compared to 39 last year. That means we have 6 fewer nights to collect food and cash to help the less fortunate. We ask for your consideration to help sponsor Rotary Lights 2019. FRUIT BASKET FUNDRAISER....Our Fruit Basket Fundraiser is to generate financial resources for our club activities and service projects. The fundraiser also provides an opportunity for all club members to participate in an annual activity through the assembly, distribution, purchase and sale of fruit baskets during the holiday season. This year our Fruit Basket assembly and delivery will be Saturday, December 14th and Monday, December 16th. Save those dates! Order forms and more information will be available soon.
We want you to start thinking of how you can promote our fundraiser.....Does your business give employee gifts? Rotary Fruit Baskets are your answer! Each wicker basket contains 8 apples, 4 oranges, 4 pears and a bag of peanuts.
We have special rates for large orders: 200+ ($18), 100-199 ($19), 49-99 ($20), 1-48 ($23).
As our club continues to grow, it becomes more difficult to know your fellow Rotarians. Beyond the fellowship that we enjoy each Thursday and beyond committees on which you may serve, there may be activities or interests that you share with other members, but you simply haven't discovered that mutual bond.

Rotary Attendance policy is to attend or makeup at least 50% of the club meetings They can be done by: • Attending regular club meetings • Making up meetings at other Rotary Clubs ( which includes E-Clubs) • Engaging in club projects/events/fellowship/board meetings. Make ups can be made up anytime during the year.
Associate Membershipis a program to recruit younger members, millennials, to membership. Associate Membership is available to anyone who is proposed for membership who is 35 years of age or less. Associate membership will end when that member reaches the age of 38. They would pay for dues and $100 for meals per quarter no matter how many meetings they attend that quarter.
Corporate Membership is a program to allow multiple employees of a business Rotary participation under one primary membership. Each corporate membership is limited to a three-year term. After the three-year corporate membership term, the individuals are required to become individual members. View Corporate Membership Policy.
Family Membershipis a program to allow a second individual Rotary participation under one primary membership. View Family Membership Policy.
Honorary Membership is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals.Unlike other membership categories that can be requested by the member, Honorary Membership is bestowed upon a member by election from the Board of Directors. Excused Membership is offered to members if the aggregate of the member’s years of age and years of membership in one or more clubs is 85 years or more, the member has been a member of one or more clubs for at least 20 years, and the member has notified the club's secretary in writing of the member’s desire to be excused from attendance and the board has approved. Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues and only for meals when they attend a meeting.
Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member. This was a criteria that our club had set not RI. This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently. You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.
