Our program this week will be the AVID college-readiness program. They are closing in on the first full year of the new AVID college-readiness program at Central and Logan high schools. The Advancement Via Individual Determination program teaches critical thinking and other skills key to succeeding in college. The three-year implementation plan for AVID is being supported through major grants and other community fundraising by the La Crosse Public Education Foundation (LPEF). Presentation by: Andrea Kramer, AVID teacher at Logan High School; and Rotarian David Stoeffler, executive director of LPEF.
Anita will have greeting cards for sale and all proceeds are donated to Rotary Works.
Gene Purcell, Executive Director of the Education Communications Board was our speaker. He spoke about what the ECB is and does. (They are the parent organization for Wisconsin Public Television and Radio. Educational Communications Board is a state agency that distributes K-12 educational media, public safety and public broadcasting services to Wisconsin’s citizens. Rotary Club of La Crosse 2015 Membership Survey. An email was sent to all regarding the Membership Survey. The link was provided in the email. Our next STAR Meeting will be May 14th. We will meet at the Radisson Hotel in the Wisconsin Room - 3(1st floor) at 7:00 a.m.
ALL NEW members become a member of this committee for one year. This breakfast is hosted (no cost to the new members). The breakfast and presentation will last no longer than one hour and the meeting will count as a make-up. The STAR Committee, in addition to meeting other new members and some of the present membership will learn more about various aspects of the Club.

Honorary Membership is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals. Honorary membership is the highest distinction that a club may bestow and should be conferred only in exceptional cases. Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club or hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues. Honorary members will continue to receive The Rotarian Magazine compliments of the club.
Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member. This was a criteria that our club had set not RI. This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently. You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.
Please note: Raffle, Fines, Birthday, Anniversaries and Scooters are all donations that will go to the club If you are making a donation and would like it to go to the Rotary Works Foundation or Rotary International Foundation, we ask that you write a check to the Foundation of your choice.
