When Rotary was established by Paul Harris and three others, each person came from a different walk of life. This diversity is a cornerstone of Rotary. The intent is to have a cross-section of business and professional experiences in your community.
For decades Rotary International listed a range of professional “classifications” and restricted how many representatives of each could be in a club. This ensures that each club reflects the community in which it serves. It also reminds us to not have one profession as a dominant voice in our club. Over time, these restrictions have pretty much given way, but your classification continues to be of great interest to your fellow club members. That’s why your Rotary badge carries your name and your classification.
Classification talks help us learn about the life experiences and professional backgrounds of new members.
Last Week: Mandi Genord, Miss Wisconsin
Mandi Genord is from Beaver Dam, WI. In May of 2024, she graduated summa cum laude from the University of Alabama, where she triple majored in dance, political science, and communication studies on the pre-law track. She aspires to become a family lawyer with a specialization in adoption. Her initiative is Connecting Lives: Adoption Resources and Advocacy, where she strives to aid all families in the adoption process. She has been a dancer for 20 years and loves to fish, travel, and eat squeaky cheese curds!

Thomas Francis Brock died September 12, 2024, at home, surrounded by his daughters and wife.
Tom was a member of Rotary Club of La Crosse for 20 years. From his wife, Jan: He wanted you all to know how much you all meant to him. The fellowship and ideals were two things he really valued - the principles/4 way test has always had a prominent place on his desk.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 12 at the La Crosse Country Club from 2-4 pm. A private burial has been held. Schumacher Kish Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Our next STAR Meeting will be Tuesday, September 17th from 12-1pm. Location: The Parenting Place, 1500 Green Bay Street, La Crosse. Hosted by Jodi Widuch and Todd Restel.

Youth Exchange Information
Rotary is accepting applications for outbound Rotary Youth Exchange students for the 2025-26 school year. Students who are interested in being outbound exchange students should complete the Outbound Preliminary Applicationright away.

Al’s Musky Challenge is a Rotary Beneficiaries Club of La Crosse Project that provides opportunity and support
to youth throughout the Coulee Region!
From July 25 through September 30, Rotarian Al Louis will be fishing Lake Vermilion in Northern Minnesota. This Summer, Al will fish with his fishing partners, both named A.J., as well as multiple sponsor guests and fellow Rotarians.
2024 recipients are the Boys and Girls Club of Greater La Crosse and the Family and Children's Center.

Welcome to Week Three of Basic Education & Literacy Month.
The report this week is from South East Asia, where several Rotary Clubs, in partnership with TRF, have been doing great things to improve the lives of fellow human beings. With focus on screening and testing patients for tuberculosis, RC Rasipuram, RID 2982, has donated a molecular testing machine to the Government
Hospital, a fluorescent microscope to GH, Namakkal, and a microscope each to 10 primary health centers in and around Rasipuram to enhance the TB testing facilities through a Global Grant project worth ₹27.4 lakh (about $33,000 USD).
Rasipuram is a town in the revenue district of Namakkal in Tamil Nadu. RC

As the National TB Elimination Programme mandates the supply of nutritional diet consisting of pulses, eggs, cooking oil etc to boost the immunity of patients under treatment, “we have arranged for the monthly supply of pulses worth ₹600 ($7.15 USD) to 20 TB patients for six months, costing ₹72,000 ($858.34 USD),” said N P Ramaswamy, project
chairman. In another report, RC Kottayam East, RID 3211, along with RC McKinney, Texas, RID 5810, provided an ambulance and kidney dialysis equipment worth $118,450 to two hospitals in the city. Over 40 underprivileged people are benefitting from the facilities.
