Gary Gunderson will be our guest speaker on Thursday, April 12th. Gary is the author of four books, of which one is titled Leading Causes of Life. Gary shares “I've long known of the Rotary Club's astonishing, truly historic witness around polio, so I am honored to speak about their own tenacious creative imagination that express the leading causes of life at the scale not only of LaCrosse, but globally.”
Gary Gunderson will also be the keynote speaker at the La Crosse Medical Health Science Consortium’s annual health summit on Friday, April 13th.
We will be presenting the YOUTH COMMITTEE COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD toElissa Nott, a senior at Aquinas High Schooland honoring Elmer Grassman on his 49 years in Rotary.

Inspiring Aquinas senior receives Youth Committee Community Service Award
Elissa Nott, a senior at Aquinas High School, will be honored at our meeting April 12 as this year's winner of the Rotary Club of La Crosse Youth Committee Community Service Award.
Elissa, the daughter of Steve and Charlotte Nott of Onalaska, was a Rotary Student of the Month in February 2017. She has been an extremely active participant in the Aquinas Interact Club, including serving this year as club president. Among many duties in that role, Elissa provided extraordinary leadership of the 2018 iFeed event as Aquinas was responsible for organizing the international food packing stations on the day of the event. Interact is just one of Elissa's many community service activities. She has been active in the Aquinas IMPACT organization, which encourages students to donate time for church and local charitable events, and has taken leadership roles with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, the Army Teen Panel, the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps, and the Fort McCoy Teen No-More Task Force, which provided first-of-its-kind education for youth on domestic abuse and sexual assault prevention.
"Growing up in a military family has motivated me to give back to others," Elissa wrote in her application essay. "My family, faith, and the many community service organizations I have observed and worked with, including Rotary, have guided and inspired me to give back to our nation and my community." Elissa plans to major in political science in college, with an interest in international relations, while also serving in the United States Marine Corps.
Club Member Rob Palmberg, who is one of Elissa's advisors for Rotary Interact at Aquinas, describes her as "efficient, detail-oriented, and extremely competent. ... She is a person of high character and integrity, as evidenced by her recently being named Chief Petty Officer for the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, the highest rank a cadet can reach. She serves and impacts community in many profound ways!"
Elissa receives a $1,000 award to be used toward college expenses. This is the second year for the Club's Community Service Award, which is designed to recognize and encourage academic excellence, good citizenship and career development in youth.

Col. David J. Pinter Sr. assumed duties as Garrison Commander at Fort McCoy March 11, 2016. Immediately prior to this assignment he served as Division Chief for the Homeland Defense Division of the Joint Staff J3 Operations Directorate, Washington, D.C. More info on Col. David Pinter.
We will have our annual Kid's Coulee Work Day on Saturday, April 14th from 9-12. Wear work clothes and bring gloves, rake, broom and shovel if you have them. We will serve a lunch at Noon.

I'm not tired of thanking you for everything you've done for Rebeca. Thanks to Rotary, as an institution, but also to the people who belong to this institution. I always believed she would fulfill many of her dreams, but I never thought so many dreams would come true. There is no way to stop thanking for everything and for everyone who in one way or another takes care of it.
This was not my first thanks and it will not be the last. Thank you so much for everything you are doing for my daughter. All this makes me have even more hope for a better world. I am sure that I will receive an even better daughter thanks to your help. Thank you very much and may God bless you all.
Every year the nine area Rotary Clubs gather for a celebration of club projects and honor members that have lived the Service Above Self motto. Clubs will also honor their Rotarians of the Year. This year our Avenues of Service Banquet will be Tuesday, August 14 at the Lunda Center at WTC. The celebration will begin at 5:30 with a social. This is a fundraiser for our Rotary Works Foundation. We hope you will save the date. It is a great night of fellowship and celebration. More information will come closer to the date.

Kwik Trip recently made changes to this fundraiser. We will get 5% off the face value of each card...if the card is used IN STORE for purchases we will receive another 10%- total 15% back (some exclusions apply)....if used only for gas we will only get the initial 5%.
We are looking for nominations for "Rotarian of the Year" from our club....please submit you nominations to rotarylax@charter.net by May 1st...click here to view form. The board will review the nominations at the May board meeting and make a selection. The Rotarian of the Year will be recognized at our Spring Social and the Avenues of Service Dinner on Tuesday, August 14th.
Our Youth Exchange Student for 2018-19 will be a girl, Lucia from Spain.We have already identified two host families, they live in the Central school district. The first family will have her from mid-August to early December, Her second family will have her from early December to around March 31st, after which her third family would have her until mid-July 2019.
We are looking for one more family that would like to host her from March through mid-July. If hosting an exchange student interests you or if you have any questions, please talk to Maria Norberg, Eva Marie Restel or Jack Haase. Also, feel free to talk to Tami Woods on what it has meant to her family to host Beca.
Katie Shephardson received the Rotary Global Award. Corporate Membership is a program to allow multiple employees of a business Rotary participation under one primary membership. Each corporate membership is limited to a three-year term. After the three-year corporate membership term, the individuals are required to become individual members. View Corporate Membership Policy.
Family Membership is a program to allow a second individual Rotary participation under one primary membership. View Family Membership Policy.
Honorary Membership is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals. View Honorary Membership Policy.
Excused Membership is offered to members if the aggregate of the member’s years of age and years of membership in one or more clubs is 85 years or more, the member has been a member of one or more clubs for at least 20 years, and the member has notified the club's secretary in writing of the member’s desire to be excused from attendance and the board has approved. Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues of $70 and only for meals when they attend a meeting.
Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member. This was a criteria that our club had set not RI.
