Fruit Basket Orders....Our Fruit Basket fundraiser is underway. Order forms are available at our Rotary Meeting...every Rotarian is responsible for buying/selling five baskets. Help promote the fundraiser by distributing fliers/order forms. This fundraiser helps us fund our projects throughout the year...Youth Exchange, Friendship and Vocational Team support, Rotary Lights, Rotary Works Foundation, etc.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing...Check your schedules...we will have a sign-up sheet for our Saturday, December 19th Salvation Army Bell Ringing.
Polio Plus Drive will continue through November 30th....all members that donate $100 or more, the club will match with Foundation Points. You can become a Paul Harris by donating $500.
Last week our guest was our District 6250 Governor, Mary Van Hout. Mary began her Rotary involvement in 2000 with the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton. She served on the Board for many years and served as President in 2010-2011. It has been her goal to participate in all Avenues of Service annually and most recently through her efforts, she helped her community fund an ADA pier with Club funding and she initiated a Rotary Book Club. She’s been privileged to be the Host Counselor for District 6250’s Ambassadorial Scholars. Mary participated in the Rotary Friendship Exchange to Essex, England in 2011 and Lagos, Nigeria in 2014.
Rotary District Governor Mary Van Hout described her personal relationship to Rotary and the many ways it has affected her life. She said that one word “Give” defines how her Rotary membership has affected her civic involvement. Many people are wary of becoming involved or giving of their time and money to philanthropic organizations but they underestimate the benefits that accrue.
This year’s Rotary International motto is “Be a Gift to the World.” This motto emphasizes the five core values of Rotary:
Friendship – You have many friends throughout the community.
Leadership – There is an opportunity for personal development.
Integrity – This is based on the 4-way test of Rotary.
Service – You place service above self.
Diversity – You understand the value of acceptance of other political views, religions, ethnicity, social and economic status.
Mary learned many of these values growing up in a small rural area in Wisconsin where she observed how neighbors helped each
other by working in teams to carry out their chores. When she was 10, her mother died, and neighbors displayed random acts of kindness to Mary and her several siblings. In 2000, Mary learned about the Rotary Orphan Train Project, and she took her first international trip to Guatemala. The Rotarians’ intent was to institute a computer program, but the Catholic sister in charge of the orphanage insisted that the money could be better used to build a poultry barn. The girls would then learn how to grow their own food as well as developing business skills. Since this trip, Mary has pursued many other international service projects. She implores Rotarians to balance the “Giving” word with “Getting” as you consider the many benefits of Rotary membership.
SAD NEWS FOR OUR ROTARY FAMILY....Rotary Club of La Crosse lost a special member of our Rotary Family on Sunday, November 8th...Hal Keitel passed away.
Hal has been a Rotarian for 42 years...the last 8 years in our club. He served three clubs as a club president and was 6250 District Governor in 2006-07. He was currently chair of our World Service Committee and helped with the Uganda "Wine into Water" Project with the Tomah Rotary Club.
Please remember his wife Julie and family at this difficult time. Her address is W5640 Stone Hill Road, La Crosse WI 54601.

Our next STAR Meeting will be this Thursday, November 12th. We will meet at the Radisson Hotel in the Wisconsin Room - 3(1st floor) at 7:00 a.m.
ALL NEW members become a member of this committee for one year. This breakfast is hosted (no cost to the new members). The breakfast and presentation will last no longer than one hour and the meeting will count as a make-up. The STAR Committee, in addition to meeting other new members and some of the present membership will learn more about various aspects of the Club.

Thank you cards are only $1.00, as are the note cards, which are blank inside. The regular cards are $2.00 and $3.00 each. Some cards are three for $5.00 and some three for $10. Anita donates all sales to the Rotary Works Foundation!

I’m Cameron Neader, an 18 year old who’s lucky enough to have a “once in a life experience” two times. I went on exchange to Fyn, Denmark in 2013-2014 through Rotary and now on a second Rotary Youth exchange to Istanbul, Turkey for 2015-2016. My first day in Turkey was September 1st.

Honorary Membership is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals. Honorary membership is the highest distinction that a club may bestow and should be conferred only in exceptional cases. Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club or hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues. Honorary members will continue to receive The Rotarian Magazine compliments of the club.
Excused Membershipis offered to members whose age and number of years in Rotary total 85 years. Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues of $67 and only for meals when they attend a meeting.
Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member. This was a criteria that our club had set not RI.
